Questions
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. The conversion happens on your device. The text is not kept in your browser either, and it is gone when you close the page.
What happens to half-width voicing marks?
To full-width, a half-width katakana and the voicing mark after it become one character. To half-width, such a character becomes two again.
Do hiragana and kanji change?
No. Hiragana and kanji have no half-width forms.
Why does the wave dash not change?
The wave dash (U+301C) is a different character from the full-width tilde (U+FF5E). Only the full-width tilde becomes the half-width tilde.
Do yen signs change?
No. Both yen signs (U+00A5 and U+FFE5) stay the same. A half-width backslash becomes the full-width backslash.
What kind of file is saved?
A text file (.txt) in UTF-8 without a BOM, named "text-fullwidth.txt" or "text-halfwidth.txt".
Limits
- Only these change: the 94 letters, digits and symbols that you can type on a keyboard, the space, half-width katakana, and their full-width forms.
- With katakana chosen, the long vowel mark and Japanese punctuation change even after hiragana.
- Katakana that have no half-width form stay the same.
- We cannot protect against things in your own environment, such as browser extensions.
