Questions

Is my video sent anywhere?

No. Reading the video and trimming it both happen on your device. Nothing is sent out after you choose a video.

What is the difference between "Same quality" and "To the exact frame"?

"Same quality" does not make the video again, so the quality stays the same and it is fast. But the new video starts at the time you chose or at the key frame a little before it; the tool tells you how much earlier before you trim. "To the exact frame" starts at the frame you chose, but it makes the picture again, so it takes longer and the quality changes a little.

Does the location or other hidden information stay?

The location, the date it was taken and the device do not stay. The new video has only the picture and the sound: the information that phones put into videos is not included, and the creation date of the new video is left empty. Notes of encoders and cameras in the picture data (user data) are taken out too. With "Same quality", captions and time codes in the picture stay. The sound data may also carry the name of the app that made it (such as "Lavc58"), and that stays.

Can I use iPhone videos (MOV, HEVC)?

Yes. "Same quality" works in every browser. "To the exact frame" works in browsers that can read HEVC videos (such as Safari). The saved video is MP4.

What happens to HDR videos?

With "Same quality" they stay HDR. With "To the exact frame" their colors are converted to standard dynamic range (SDR). Some browsers cannot convert them: the colors then look darker and duller, and the tool says so before making.

Why can the colors of an HDR video look dark and dull?

In Chrome on a computer and similar browsers, the tool cannot read the original color values of HDR videos from an iPhone (HEVC). It then cannot convert their range of brightness properly, so the colors of the result look darker and duller (the tool says so before making). To record ordinary (SDR) videos from now on, go to Settings > Camera > Record Video on the iPhone and turn off HDR Video.

What is the saved file called?

"trimmed.mp4", because the original file name often includes the date the video was taken.

Can I use it on a phone?

Yes. Inside apps such as LINE, saving may not work. If so, open the page again in Safari or Chrome.
