TEMOTO

Extract the sound from a video

Takes only the sound of a video (MP4 or MOV) and saves it as an M4A or WAV file. When the sound is AAC (as in almost every phone video), M4A keeps the same quality and is ready at once. The video is processed only on this device.

Questions

Is my video sent anywhere?

No. Reading the video and taking out its sound both happen on your device. Nothing is sent out after you choose a video.

Can I make MP3?

No, because no browser can make MP3 files. M4A is recommended: most apps on iPhone, Android, Windows and Mac play it.

Should I choose M4A or WAV?

Usually M4A. When the sound of the video is AAC (as in almost every phone video), it keeps it as it is, so the quality stays the same and the file is small. Sound in other formats is made again as AAC, so the quality changes a little. WAV is uncompressed sound: the file is large, but sound editing apps handle it easily.

Does the location or other hidden information stay?

No. The new file has only the sound. The location, the date it was taken, the device and other information are not included. But in an M4A that keeps the AAC as it is, the sound data may carry the name of the app that made it (such as "Lavc58"), and that stays.

What is the saved file called?

"audio.m4a" or "audio.wav", because the original file name often includes the date the video was taken.

Can I use it on a phone?

Yes. In Safari 18 and earlier on iPhone and in Firefox on Android, AAC sound can be made into WAV for up to 10 minutes. Inside apps such as LINE, saving may not work. If so, open the page again in Safari or Chrome.
