Questions
Is my recording sent anywhere?
No. Recording and making the file both happen on your device. Nothing is sent out after the recording starts.
I refused the microphone. What now?
Allow the microphone with the mark next to the address (a lock, for example), then load the page again. On iPhone and iPad, open Settings, then Apps, then Safari, and set Microphone to "Ask" or "Allow".
What is the difference between "Clear voice" and "Sound as it is"?
"Clear voice" uses the browser to lower echo and noise and to even out the level of a voice: good for meetings and notes. For instruments and singing, "Sound as it is" keeps the sound unchanged.
How long can I record?
One recording can be up to 60 minutes on computers, and up to 30 minutes on phones and tablets (at 48 kHz, in stereo on computers and in mono on phones and tablets; in stereo or at 96 kHz and the like it is shorter). The recording is kept in the memory of your device until the file is made (a second at a time, handed to the browser).
Can I use it on a phone?
Yes. When the screen turns off or another app opens during a recording, the recording stops (what was recorded until then can be saved). Inside apps such as LINE, recording and saving may not work. If so, open the page again in Safari or Chrome.
Is the recording kept?
No. It is gone when the page is closed, and when you press "Start recording" again. Save the recordings you want to keep with "Save".
Limits
- When a recording starts, the browser asks whether the page may use the microphone. Only the local box of this page can use it.
- One recording can be up to 60 minutes on computers, and up to 30 minutes on phones and tablets (at 48 kHz, in stereo on computers and in mono on phones and tablets; in stereo or at 96 kHz and the like it is shorter, by the memory that the recording takes). New files can be up to 500 MB on iPhone and iPad, 1 GB on Android, and 4 GB on computers and other devices (1 MB is 1,000,000 bytes).
- MP3, WAV and FLAC can be made in every browser. M4A and OGG can be chosen only in browsers that can make them (Chrome, Edge and others).
- On phones and tablets, the recording stops when the screen turns off or another app opens. What was recorded until then can be saved.
- Browsers that cannot use the microphone cannot record (the tool says so).
- Saved as MP3, the sound starts after about 0.024 s of silence in some players (a matter of how MP3 works). For an exact length, or joins without a gap, choose WAV or FLAC.
- We cannot protect against things in your own environment, such as browser extensions.
- The work is done on this device, so how long it takes depends on how powerful the device is. On an older phone, it can take several times as long as on a computer.
