Questions

Are my pictures sent anywhere?

No. Reading your pictures and making the new ones both happen on your device. Nothing is sent out after you choose a picture.

Does the quality drop?

The pixels are moved as they are, so nothing gets blurry. JPEG and WebP pictures are made again at a high quality (92%), and PNG adds no lossy compression. Only a picture too large for the device, or longer than 16,384 pixels on a side, is made smaller, and the tool says so.

What is the orientation information of a photo?

Phone photos carry a mark that says which side is up (the orientation information). The tool first makes the photo upright by that mark, then turns it, and the saved picture has no such mark. So it looks the same wherever it is opened.

A photo shows sideways on a site. What can I do?

Sites that ignore the orientation information can show a photo sideways. Save the photo with this tool without turning it: it becomes upright by its orientation information, and looks the same everywhere.

Does the location or other hidden information stay?

No. The new pictures have no location, date or device information. They have no orientation information either: the picture itself is saved upright.

What are the saved files called?

They get names with their number, such as "rotated-1.jpg", because the original file name often includes the date the photo was taken. Two or more pictures are saved together in one ZIP file.

Can I use it on a phone?

Yes. Phone browsers may not be able to make very large pictures (such as photos from recent phones) at their full size. Then the tool makes the picture as large as that device can handle, and shows the old and the new size. Inside apps such as LINE, saving may not work. If so, open the page again in Safari or Chrome.
